Zomato's Bizarre Response to Customer's 'Marriage' Query Has Internet Asking, 'Kehna Kya Chahte Ho?'

Using artificial intelligence (AI) to manage basic operations is now a common pursuit among companies in India. Nonetheless, vigilance is paramount when utilising this technology, as it operates devoid of emotions and adheres strictly to programmed protocols. Such a scenario appears to have unfolded with Zomato, where the company’s response to a customer’s humorous query appeared to be nothing more than a playful manipulation of words.
It all began when Shobhit Bakliwal, a Zomato customer based in Bengaluru, raised an issue regarding the app’s functionality. Bakliwal observed that the app required users to input their wedding anniversaries and date of birth, without provision for later modifications. Posing a peculiar question on social media platform ‘X’, Bakliwal pondered the implications of remarrying on Zomato’s anniversary date policy. “What if someone remarries,” he asked.
This query garnered a response from Zomato’s official customer care account, gaining viral attention due to its peculiarity.

“Oh, no “edit” for anniversaries? We didn’t anticipate Zomato would become a marriage counselor! If someone decides to “remarry” their meal, we’ll just have to celebrate their culinary commitment with extra flavor and maybe a side of confetti,” read Zomato’s reply. It seemed as though Zomato Care had said a lot while conveying very little. But rest assured, the confusion was shared by all, as they struggled to make sense of it.

“This is what Ai does to your business. Zomato used to be known for its tacky and witty marketing,” observed one user. “This is straight out of ChatGPT. Lol,” remarked another. “For the love of god, if you have built a social brand as great as @zomato over a decade, don’t ruin it overnight by plugging LLMs (Large Language Models) into it,” cautioned a third.
Even the OP shared screenshot of Zomato’s response, writing, “Bhai kehna kya chahte ho.”
