Video: Internet Demands Action Against Parents For 'Risking' Their Child's Life
After the video went viral, the Bengaluru police intercepted the owner and fined him.

A video on social media showed a child standing on a scooter’s footrest while his parents rode through busy traffic in Whitefield, Bengaluru. On Tuesday, popular X account Whitefield Rising shared this clip and warned, “Don’t do this. One small stone or a minor dip in the road is enough to cause irreversible harm that you will not want to face. And if the child wants a thrill ride, be the parent you are, and need to be.”

Neither the child nor the pillion rider in the video were wearing helmets, further endangering their safety. In India, both riders and pillion riders over the age of four are mandated to wear helmets with straps, as per the Motor Vehicle Act. Failure to comply can result in fines imposed by traffic authorities. Following the video’s viral spread, calls for action against the parents for jeopardizing their child’s safety and flouting road safety regulations emerged from the public.

Commenting on this video, an X user wrote, “This is very dangerous. The side foot rest on scooters is not strong enough to take the weight.”

Another one tried to justify the parents and wrote, “What about the rash driving cars, buses, dumpers, these families are at least driving in a proper speed and, scooty seats are very narrow so how can a family be seated in this small 2 wheeler.”

In response to this, another X user wrote, “Use public transport like bus, metro. Or use auto or cabs. It’s quite ironic actually – people crib about not being able to “afford” cars and are ready to “afford” accidents.”

Someone observed, “There are many scooters and bike riders with the infant which is made to stand while the pillion holds it. In some a toddler child is made to sit on a bike fuel tank, these are certain invitation for danger. Requesting cops should take strict action against such erring parents.”

After this clip went viral, the Mahadevapura police intercepted the scooter’s owner and fined him.

Even though law enforcement shared a photo with the scooter owner and the challan slip, they concealed the identity of the person.
