For decades, aliens and UFO sightings have been a subject of fascination and curiosity among humans. It has been an intriguing topic for humans to know whether life exists somewhere else in the universe apart from Earth. Over the years, there have been many reports of UFO sightings across the globe which has further fueled alien talks and discussions. It has also led to “experts” alleging that the US government is hiding the evidence of aliens’ visit to Earth. Now, scientists have claimed that too much alien talk can be a problem.
Recently, a former US intelligence officer claimed that aliens are hiding on Earth. These talks have led to people believing in the existence of aliens. Now, scientists claim that alien talk leads to a widespread societal problem. Tony Milligan, a Research Associate in Ethics Philosophy at King’s College, London shared, “This belief is somewhat paradoxical because we have no evidence that aliens even exist.”
The researcher also claimed that it is absurd to think that aliens would come to meet us on Earth. He pointed out the vast distances between the star systems and said it is strange that people on Earth would learn about them from just a visit. He believes that the proof of alien existence will come from a signal from distant planets.
Tony Milligan further pulled up statistics which showed alarming results as about a quarter of Americans believe that they have seen a UFO. On top of that, federal hearings on these matters are fuelling the conspiracy theories. As per a 2022 YouGov poll of 1,000 USA adult citizens, the belief in UFO sightings has surged from 20 per cent in 1996 to 34 per cent in 2022.
A UAP Commission poll before the 2019 Gallup Poll revealed that 68 per cent of people believe the US government knows more about UFOs than it is sharing. Tony Milligan further pointed out that continuous discussions about aliens could hamper the genuine efforts to search for extraterrestrial life.
