Dogs are the most loving pets and make great companions for humans. They cannot understand what we say, but they can read our gestures and appreciate it if we are kind towards them. Recently, a HR expert shared her experience of staying at the Taj Mahal Hotel in Mumbai and was startled to discover a dog napping calmly outside the hotel’s entrance. Rubi Khan was curious about the dog, so she asked the personnel about it. They informed her that the puppy had lived at the hotel since it was born. They further explained that Ratan Tata had issued stringent instructions to treat animals visiting the hotel premises properly.
Rubi Khan shared a picture of the sleeping dog and shared that it was sleeping at the entrance of the Taj Mahal Hotel, which is considered “one of the most luxurious and finest hotels in the country.” Therefore, she was curious to know more and discovered Ratan Tata’s generosity. She mentioned that what inspired her to write about this experience was the realisation that this place, which hosts a variety of people ranging from political leaders to national and worldwide celebrities, values every living being within its doors. She added, “The entrance of such a prestigious establishment holds significant importance, and there he was, peacefully sleeping, perhaps unnoticed by many of the guests. Amidst the chaos, he owns the place, finding his sanctuary.”
Rubi Khan shared that, while this was a small incident, it demonstrated a significant reality to her. It made her understand that in the midst of leading and driving a business while being customer-obsessed, the true essence of a company is mirrored in how it treats others. She stated, “We often speak about inclusion, biases, psychological safety, and emotional intelligence. I witnessed all these principles in action here. It’s a fine balance of head and heart, being authentic, and not worrying about what others might think as they enter this esteemed property.”
Appreciating Ratan Tata, she stated that one can be the most successful entrepreneur, but it should not prevent one from appreciating and accepting everyone. It’s about believing in oneself and living it out every day. Further, she stated that this also makes one think about whether to adopt or buy a pet. This scenario showed her that making a personal choice is something that should not be judged.
