'Selfie, Aadhaar And Rs 2,500': Delhi Broker's Conditions For House Tour Go Viral
A man, looking for a place in Delhi, was asked to pay Rs 2,500 to get a 'visiting card' from the society.

House hunting can be quite exhausting, and a recent incident in Delhi brought attention to its unpredictable nature. A Reddit user shared an experience where a broker asked for Rs 2,500 for a ‘visiting card’ to enter society for a house inspection. Questioning the legitimacy of this demand, the user posted a chat screenshot seeking advice from fellow Redditors on whether it could be a scam. The property, located in Sarita Vihar, offers a fully furnished one-bedroom hall kitchen at a monthly rent of Rs 15,000. The broker reassured the individual that the amount for the visiting card was refundable.

In the conversation, the broker shared the procedure for obtaining the visiting card. “To see the flat in the society, you will have to make a society visiting card. To get the visiting card made, you will have to WhatsApp your selfie photo, your Aadhar card, mobile number and you will have to deposit your visiting fee The visiting fee is Rs 2,500 If you like the flat, then your Rs 2,500 will be deducted from your rent amount If you do not like the flat, your Rs 2,500 will be returned to you,” the user mentioned.

A majority of the responses on Reddit confirmed that the situation seemed like a scam. Many users even advised the individual not to proceed with the payment.

A user joked, “2500 me to Shah Rukh Khan khud aake flat dikhayega. (In 2500, Shah Rukh Khan himself will come and show the flat).”

Another suggested, “Anybody who says you pay X amount, it’ll be returned to you, is scamming you.”

An individual shared, “Common scam in Bangalore, now in Delhi.”

“What’s the point of collecting the visiting charge if they are just going to give it back? 99 acres always keeps telling people to NOT pay any visit charge. It is big time scam. DO NOT PAY,” a comment read.

One more wrote, “A similar thing happened with me, I was looking for a PG in Palam, on call and WhatsApp the guy said that the double sharing rent is 7k (which was peculiar as average rate starts from 9k in Palam, I knew it when I explored more) and said you can come and visit first and when I reached there he said, ‘Pehle aap 2000 GPay karo tab main aaunga neeche’.”

Since the post was shared on Reddit, it has garnered over 1000 upvotes on the platform.
