On an overcrowded train in India, passengers might find themselves rephrasing a nursery rhyme, thinking, ‘Train, train, go away, come again another day,’ when they can’t find a seat despite having a reservation. Amid the numerous instances of massive overcrowding on Indian trains, a recent viral video showed ticketless passengers occupying the floor, further fueling concerns about the state of Indian Railways.
This incident took place on the Suhaildev Superfast Express travelling between Anand Vihar Terminal and Ghazipur City, as captured in a disturbing clip. The sleeper coach was packed, with passengers seated on the floor, while the corridor was congested, leaving little space to move.

The ‘X’ user, @5gqwedr, who shared the clip lamented, “Train number 22420 Koi bhi TT nhi aaya train Lucknow pahuchne wali hai Thank you railway SLEEPER CLASS KO GENERAL banana ke liye Maximum aadmi bina ticket ke ya general ticket hai” (Sleeper class has become a general coach, most people are travelling without tickets while some have general tickets), sparking a viral response.

“How to sleep in sleeper coach,” pondered one user. “After complaint, It would take a few more hours to get it clear, Why don’t the railway officials take care of passengers safety and comfort. This became a regular issue in Reserved coaches,” remarked another.
Railway Seva, the official customer care account of the Railways, responded to the post, requesting the user to share journey details for quick resolution.

Just yesterday, another ‘X’ user shared their complaint about extreme overcrowding on trains, which led to injuries to his sister who had to get off the train to find her son lost in the crowd.
