A man from Chicago in the USA has filed a defamation lawsuit against 27 women, one man, and Facebook’s parent company Meta after he was criticised on a private Facebook group called “Are We Dating The Same Guy.” The group was reportedly used by women to ‘warn’ others about ‘toxic men’ that they met or dated. The plaintiff, 32-year-old Nikko D’Ambrosio, claims that the women’s posts in the group led to “personal humiliation, mental anguish and suffering, emotional distress, stress, anxiety, lost earnings.” He added that the comments on his character also led to doxing and invasion of his privacy. To be compensated for this loss he demanded $75 million from the defendants.
The lawsuit read, “The defendants broadcast their outrageous, cruel, and malicious lies about the plaintiff with knowledge that the statements were false or with reckless disregard as to whether or not they were true.”
It further emphasised, “Thousands of men have been potentially defamed by members of the group via these online publications, and remain entirely unaware of the attacks on their character as a result of the social media group’s private status and heavily moderated members list.”
The lawsuit mentions some posts about D’Ambrosio that he deemed defamatory. As per the Facebook group’s screenshots shared by Fox News, one anonymous woman described her experience with D’Ambrosio as, “We met organically in Chicago two and a half months ago. Very clingy very fast. Flaunted money very awkwardly and kept talking about how I don’t want to see his bad side, especially when he was on business calls…” In a follow-up comment, she added that D’Ambrosio texted her from another number after she blocked his first number.
A woman added that previously another woman had spoken about D’Ambrosio’s problematic behavior. She wrote, “The poster said he sent her a slew of texts calling her names because she didn’t want to spend the night with him.”
Another woman wrote about her time with D’Ambrosio and commented, “I went out with him a few times just over a year ago- he told me what I wanted to hear until I slept with him and then he ghosted… I’d steer clear.”
