Phone snatching incidents are increasing, especially in crowded public places where thieves often target vulnerable individuals. Amidst rising concerns, one man’s unconventional method to prevent theft has captured attention online. In a post on X (formerly Twitter), a man known as Baked Samosa shared that he engraved his Apple AirPods with the Micromax logo to deter thieves.
It all started in a social media thread on phone-snatching incidents, where an individual shared images of Puducherry streets where his phone was stolen. In the comments, the man posted a photo of his Apple AirPods case engraved with a fist bump emoji. His rationale? To prevent immediate recognition by thieves. “Same reason why I engraved the emoji on my Airpods so that it gets confused as Micromax and gets saved,” he explained alongside the photo.

The 23-year-old told Hindustan Times that he resided in Delhi NCR when he bought the AirPods. He further said that during the purchase, Apple provided a complimentary engraving on the AirPods case so he chose to get the fist bump emoji engraved as it resembles the Micromax logo.
“I used to live in NCR when I bought these AirPods. Many of my friends had their devices stolen there. I have even seen phones of bystanders being snatched by goons on a bike one time in broad daylight,” the man told Hindustan Times. “I am fortunate that I have not had anything stolen from me till now.”
Since his unconventional revelation hit the internet, the user’s post swiftly went viral, racking up over 3 lakh views. The comment section became a hotspot of varied reactions from amused users.
One user quipped, “Tim Cook ready to recall these Micromax airpods as we speak.”
Another chimed in with, “Big brain pro max, Micromax.”
Humour filled the thread with comments like “India is not for beginners” and “Only Indians can come up with such ideas.”
Adding to the humour were comments like “This is gold” and “What if you use 100% of your brain?” were also spotted.
One user joked, “We got Micromax airpods before GTA6”
“Modern problems have modern solutions, fr?!!” another witty comment read.
And someone remarked, “This is what peak brain usage looks like You can’t argue otherwise.”
Apple AirPods are generally regarded as a premium product compared to its market competitors with higher retail prices starting from Rs 12,000.
