Bengaluru Car's Window 'Smashed' After 'Reckless' Driving Triggers Auto Drivers' Rage

In a recent road rage incident in Bengaluru, captured on camera, auto-rickshaw drivers vandalised a car in broad daylight. Recounting the incident on an automobile updates website, Team-BHP, the anonymous driver shared that it occurred at south Bengaluru’s Ejipura signal during an afternoon work event. Admitting to driving at a speed of 70 to 80 kilometres per hour, he stated, “except being in a bit of a hurry and overtaking a few cars,” he had done nothing wrong.

The video, posted on the team’s YouTube channel, revealed the driver’s frequent lane changes at high speed, as recorded by the car’s dash cam. However, as the driver recounted, “At the signal, two autos were miffed that I hadn’t let them pass me and slot in behind the Honda City in front of me.” Subsequently, the auto rickshaw drivers allegedly attempted to intimidate him, ultimately forcing him to stop the Volkswagen car by cornering him.

Later in the YouTube video, one of the alleged auto rickshaw drivers knocked on the driver’s window, smashing it, and reprimanded him, while another questioned him angrily from outside the window. The footage then showed the car at the service centre, with technicians assessing the damage.

Sharing the aftermath, the car driver revealed, “From the moment the tempered glass shattered, I was bleeding from my ear as well as my arms which had some fragments that punctured it.”

While the video depicted the aggression of the auto-rickshaw drivers, many observers pointed out the driver’s own reckless driving as the catalyst for the incident.

“There was more than 1 auto driver. I think it was a clear case of reckless driving. You may be Paul walker from fast and furious but when it comes to Bangalore everyone must follow the rules,” one user remarked. Another added, “The car driver was driving a bit reckless with lane switching at high speeds on city roads.”

Thus, while acknowledging the driver’s speeding, many emphasised that violence was not the appropriate response.

Nonetheless, Bengaluru Police also acknowledged the post and requested further details.
