Abandoned By Ex-Boyfriend, Thai Transwoman Seeks Revenge By Scamming 73 Japanese Over 13 Years
Amy claimed that her elaborate fraudulent activities were driven by a long-standing desire for vengeance against Japanese men, which sprang from a betrayal she experienced years ago.

A transwoman from Thailand who sought revenge on her ex-boyfriend from Japan tricked 73 of his countrymen out of around 30 million baht, nearly Rs 7 crore over 13 years. Uthai Amy Nantakhan (alias Amy) was taken into custody at her condo in Bangkok’s Bangkapi neighbourhood on August 4.

As reported by the South China Morning Post, Amy claimed that her elaborate fraudulent activities were driven by a long-standing desire for vengeance against Japanese men, which sprang from a betrayal she experienced years ago.

Her arrest came when a Japanese victim reported that Amy duped him 15 million baht (more than Rs 3.6 crore). According to Thai media outlet Thaiger, the 36-year-old man first met Amy in Thailand in January after she pretended to be a visitor from Hong Kong who had misplaced her passport and handbag.

He gave her an amount to cover lodging expenses, and after exchanging contact information, they soon got intimate. The man went on several dates with her and loaned her financial resources for insurance and health expenditures, but she never paid him back.

The news source claims that after Amy conned him into purchasing gold for her, which she later traded for money and vanished.

As per reports, police in Thailand disclosed that Amy’s modus operandi involved posing as a traveller under distress from Taiwan or Hong Kong. She tricked and misled men to win their sympathy.

She would say she had misplaced her purse and needed funds to renew her passport, or she would make up that she was afflicted with COVID-19 to obtain medical expenses. Amy also tricked others into funding fictitious ventures before stealing their money and saying the projects had failed. The fraudster was quoted by SCMP saying, “When I was in college, my Japanese boyfriend abandoned me during a trip, and left me to pay all the bills. I was heartbroken.”

She continued by saying that another Japanese man she had met, likewise conned her out of money. She detested Japanese men because of this and wanted to seek vengeance.
