Kaun Banega Crorepati is one of the most popular reality shows on Indian television. Hosted by veteran actor Amitabh Bachchan, the quiz show is loved by fans for the way it imparts knowledge and also makes the audience feel connected to the contestants. After Punjab’s Jaskaran Singh became the first person this season to win the one crore prize amount, Indore’s Shubham Gangrade was anticipated to be the second. However, he quit the show on Thursday after being unable to answer a question about the Hiroshima bombings.
The winning question was about the first atomic bomb that was dropped on Hiroshima in Japan. It read, “What was the aircraft that dropped the first atomic bomb on Hiroshima on 6th Aug 1945, named after?” Shubham’s options were: a mythical weapon, a film character, the pilot’s mother or the place where it was built.
The correct answer to the question was the third option: the pilot’s mother. The name of the aircraft and the pilot’s mother was Enola Gay. Since Shubham did not know the correct answer, he quit the show on Thursday’s episode.
Shubham had already used up his remaining lifelines on Wednesday on a question about famous lyricist Sahir Ludhianvi worth Rs. 50 lakh. The question read, “In Sahir Ludhianvi’s pen-name, if ‘Ludhianvi’ means that he is from Ludhiana, what does ‘Sahir’ mean?” The options were: king, magician, poet or warrior.
Since Shubham did not know the right answer to the question, he used the Phone A Friend lifeline for his aid. After he didn’t get a definite answer even then, he used his last lifeline, Double Dip. He was then able to correctly answer the question, locking ‘magician’ as his choice and bagging the prize amount.
Shubham went home after winning Rs. 50 lakh and Jaskaran Singh still remains the only contestant to have won the final amount of Rs. 1 crore.
