TV actress Helly Shah has been absent from showbiz for three years, with her last appearance in Ishq Mein Marjawan 2. Starting her career in her teens, this was the longest break she had taken from the screen. Ending her hiatus, Helly made her OTT debut with Gullak 4. In a recent interview, the actress shared that she deliberately took a break from her career to escape the fast-paced life and focus on improving her craft.
In a conversation with Hindustan Times, Helly Shah said, “Before I took a break, I forgot how to have fun and enjoy life. I was happy, but I felt that I was missing out on so many things. That’s why I wanted to take a break. All I wanted was to do nothing and do things at my own pace.” She added that after working for about a decade, one is allowed to give themselves a break. Helly further mentioned that she wanted to work on her craft but at her own pace.
Reflecting on how this break benefited her, Helly mentioned, “Those three years genuinely transformed me as a human. I am much calmer and much more patient.” Helly believes that taking a break should be normalised in the entertainment industry as well as in other workplaces. She stated that people are currently heavily driven by the hustle culture, but there is more to life that they fail to look at.
Speaking about taking up Gullak 4, the actress said, “Gullak is a relatable show with a fan base. It makes everyone cherish their own childhood memories. Entering this world was very easy for me.”
The series, which portrays the spirit of the middle class living in India, has struck a chord with viewers due to its real-life portrayal of everyday hardships and joys. The series also stars Jameel Khan, Geetanjali Kulkarni, Harsh Mayar as Aman Mishra, Vaibhav Raj Gupta, Saad Bilgrami, Deepak Kumar Mishra, Gaurav Sarathe and Sunita Rajwar. Shreyansh Panday created and directed the series under the banner of The Viral Fever Media Labs.
Meanwhile, Helly Shah is known for her roles in Zindagi Ka Har Rang Gulaal, Swaragini, Devanshi and Sufiyana Pyaar Mera.
