Divyanka Tripathi has been in the Indian television industry for years now and starred in some of the most popular shows across channels. Although she has a huge fan following being a celebrity, Divyanka has time and again faced negativity. Among other issues, she has been body shamed by many for not having an ideal weight. In her recent interview, Divyanka shared about people’s continuous criticism of her and how she reacts to it all.
In a conversation with PinkVilla, Divyanka Tripathi said, “This keeps happening to me. Body shaming is constant in my life because I have a certain body type.” She mentioned that she has a pear shaped body and hence her lower and upper structure vary. As a result of this, she added, “Even if I’m at my slimmest best, my lower half will look big, and then people will think ‘Oh, she’s fat from here’. So I face this in every phase.”
Sharing the mixed reactions she gets from people, Divyanka expressed, “There was a time when I was very thin, and then people said, ‘You don’t look good now, you have become very thin. Only chubby cheeks used to suit you’. Now that I’m like this so they say, ‘Ohh, your weight is not reducing. I’m like relax guys, I’m into fitness now. I want to live a very fit life, healthy life.”
Speaking about how she handles the people who body shame her, Divyanka shared that she resorts to blocking them. Moreover, she works out daily just to stay fit and for her own happiness. To keep her mental well being, she has stopped using weighing scales.
Earlier in an interview with Bollywood Bubble, Divyanka shared that she was often compared to her husband Vivek Dahiya in terms of fitness and body shaming. Reacting to this, the actress stated, “Mujhe kaafi takleef hoti thi, kyuki kahi naa kahi wo mujhe mere pati se compare kar ke neeche gira rahe hai. Aap apne partner se jab compare kiye jaa rahe ho, it feels bad. Kya mai up to the mark nahi hu? You start questioning yourself. Kayi baar, unke sawaal humare mann par haavi hone lagte hai. Eventually, I learnt ki ignore karna sahi hai. (I used to get hurt frequently. They were comparing me to my husband and making fun of me. It hurts when you are compared to your husband. Am I not up to the task? Usually, their queries get to you. But finally, I learned to ignore them).”
On the work front, Divyanka Tripathi will soon appear in the SonyLIV series Adrishyam – The Invisible Heroes, alongside Eijaz Khan.
