Uber today announced the launch of uberPOOL in Pune. uberPOOL enables people going the same way at the same time to share their journey--bringing carpooling at the tap of a button. With the launch in Pune, Uber’s carpooling service is now available in seven cities across India.
More people in fewer cars means cheaper rides for passengers and less congestion over time. Since the launch of uberPOOL in India, more than 31 percent of rides in Delhi, NCR are on uberPOOL and over 20 percent of the rides in the remaining five uberPOOL cities - Bangalore, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Mumbai and Chennai.Also read: Apple Demands Denied by Indian Government: Nirmala
Some stats released by the company indicate that since the start of this year, uberPOOL riders in India have cut down the number of kilometers driven by 48,259,398 which translates to over 2,270,111.45 litres of fuel saved.
More than 25 percent of rides in Delhi, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Mumbai and Chennai are on uberPOOL which ultimately resulted in 5,352,000 kgs of CO2 emissions cut as per the company.
The POOL option is available only between 7AM – 10PM, 7 days a week.
POOL trips can be requested from and to most parts of Pune. A rider can book a maximum of 2 seats per pick up.Also read: Uber Expands International Headquarters in Amsterdam
