Sonic Lamb Headphones Give Us A True Glimpse Of The Make-in India Future
Sonic Lamb Headphones Give Us A True Glimpse Of The Make-in India Future
Premium wireless headphones are hard to justify even if the quality makes them worthy but can an Indian brand pull off its first product to rival the Sony's?

Sonic Lamb is a true iteration of the make in India program and the fact that you get a high-end wireless headphone speaks volumes about its ambitions. The company’s first-gen product caters to the premium segment which is a bold move, especially in India but it believes in the product rather than marketing it as something it is not.

The audiophile category is brimming with options and Sonic Lamb aspires to match those standards in the future. For now, it has the Sonic Lamb headphone priced at Rs 17,990 that brings a unique set of sound profiles and future customisations that can enhance the experience further.

Keep The Sound On

Sonic Lamb packs a punch, not only because of its heft but that output delivered by the two additional drivers equipped under the cans. The innovative touch from the company is the different modes that can be manually changed from the rolling control on head headphone itself. You get the beast mode which truly opens the bass nature, while you can also switch between feel and hear that is tuned for a more vibrant music experience.

It would be easy to suggest that the headphones manage to offer an immersive audio quality, something we haven’t seen from other products in this range. The company promises more surprises with the next-gen product and we are hoping for similar attributes but with more versatility in play. We got over 20 hours of playback without really stressing the battery life of the headphones, which is claimed to run for around 40 hours on a single charge.

Noise Doesn’t Stay In

Most premium headphones come with active noise cancellation but when you browse through the features of the Sonic Lamb headphones, that critical part is missing.

The brand offers passive noise cancellation which is not very effective and that’s something the company needs to bring pronto with the version 2.0. After all, you can’t see headphones for 17K and expect people to be happy with some of the basic features missing. Isolating the noise helps you hear the sound clearer and we believe that upgrading the tech will enhance the audio quality further.

Big Unit

Sonic Lamb headphones are built like a tank. It weighs a good 70 grams more than the Sony WH-1000XM5 thanks to the materials used on the cups, the band and more. However, we did not like the tactile feedback of the control buttons, which can be less pressure intensive. We did like the option to tweak the modes with the rolling dialer which is an innovative touch. For a first-gen product, Sonic Lamb does most of the things right and it just needs minor tweaks with the upgraded version to refine the product.

One of the main reasons for a hefty unit is the addition of drivers and subwoofers. The battery size has also gone up which makes it bulkier than most in this range. However, the good news is that the company is already working towards reducing the size of the drivers without losing the quality which could have a big impact on the overall comfort of the next headphones.

Sonic Lamb headphones show us a true picture of the make in India quality and what a local, premium product can offer if the effort and intelligence are mixed to produce such devices.
