The much awaited Samsung Galaxy Note 7 was finally unveiled at Unpacked 2016 in New York. The Note 7 is a successor to the Galaxy Note 5. The new device starts shipping from August 19, 2016. But with all the hype around the new Samsung Galaxy Note 7 looks just like an incremental upgrade to the Galaxy Note 5.
There are new things like an iris scanner for security and a funkier S Pen, but mostly it's a specification bump over the Galaxy Note 5. Here's a specification comparison between the two devices from Samsung. Display
The Samsung Galaxy Note 7 comes with a 5.7-inch super AMOLED QHD display that has a curved Gorilla Glass 5 protection. It's the first smartphone to come with a Corning Gorilla Glass 5. The display on the Note 7 has a pixel density of 518ppi. The Samsung Galaxy Note 5 on the other hand sports a 5.7-inch super AMOLED QHD display. The Samsung Galaxy Note 7 features a Octa-core Exynos 8890 (2.3GHz Quad + 1.6GHz Quad), 64 bit, 14 nm processor which is backed by 4GB LPDDR4 RAM. The Samsung Galaxy Note 5 on the other hand, features Samsung's Exynos 7420 64-bit octa-core processor paired with 4GB of RAM. The Samsung Galaxy Note 5 sports a 16 megapixel rear camera with f/1.9 aperture. The Galaxy Note 7 borrows its camera from the Samsung Galaxy S7 and gets a DualPixel 12 megapixel sensor with f/1.7 aperture. The camera module on the Note 7 is similar to th one that you get on the Samsung Galaxy S7/ S7 Edge. The front camera on both the phones is of 5 megapixels with the only difference being the aperture size. The Samsung Galaxy Note 7 will run on Android 6.0 Marshmallow operating system unlike the Note 5 that runs on Android 5.1 Lollipop Operating system out-of-the-box.
Additionally, the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 will be an IP68 water-and-dust resistant device that can survive under 5 feet of water for 30 minutes. This was not available on the Galaxy Note 5. Is It Worth The Wait?
The Samsung Galaxy Note 5 is still a worthy smartphone in 2016 and is competent enough to give many of its rivals a run for their money. The Galaxy Note 7 is a worthy successor to the Note 5 with upgraded specifications. The Galaxy Note 5 will get a price cut and on numerous e-commerce websites, it's available for as low as Rs 41,000. There is a Dual-SIM version of the Galaxy Note 5 as well. Samsung has not revealed the price for the Galaxy Note 7 but it's expected to be priced at Rs 58,990 in India. So if you have deep pockets wait for the Galaxy Note 7 to come to India, but if you are tight on a budget and still desire to have a flagship phone then the Galaxy Note 5 is still a relevant phone in 2016.
