New Delhi: OnePlus has finally unveiled the successor to the OnePlus One smartphone - the OnePlus 2. Sales of the OnePlus 2 will start in the US, India, Canada, EU, and China on August 11. It will roll out in Southeast Asia in Q4 of 2015.

The new flagship smartphone has been priced at Rs 22,999 ($329) for the 16 GB model and Rs 24,999 ($389) for the 64 GB variant. The 64 GB OnePlus 2 will be available for purchase with an invite in India starting August 11 for Rs 24,999 exclusively on Amazon, while the 16 GB OnePlus 2 with 3GB LPPDR4 RAM will be available later this year.

Users can also tune in to social media channels of OnePlus India starting from August 1 for a chance to get an invite.

While there was less in store to surprise us other than the one-of-its-kind launch event, the OnePlus One successor boasts of powerful features which the company claims is what makes it the flagship killer for the next year.

The OnePlus 2 sports a 5.5-inch full HD display with 1080p resolution and a contrast ratio of 1500:1, which simply means brighter, bolder colours. Under its hood is a 64-bit octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 v2.1 processor combined with 4GB RAM.

The OnePlus 2 has an aluminum-magnesium alloy frame and jewellery-grade stainless steel that encases a full HD 5.5-inch IPS LCD In-Cell display.

It weighs 175 grams and its display is said to outperform in direct sunlight with 178 degrees of viewing angle. This dual-SIM device simultaneously supports two Nano SIM cards with 4G LTE capability.

The company explains that the 810 v2.1 will put desktop-grade computing power into the palm of users' hands. Although there have been reports that the 810 runs warmer than its predecessors, the company says that it has taken all the necessary precautions and beyond to prevent this from occurring in the OnePlus 2.

With the unique USB Type-C port, the OnePlus 2 is one of the first flagship smartphones to include the reversible port. A USB Type-C port is a reversible port for charging and external output. The OnePlus 2 USB cable will thus be more optimal than before.

Another shift from the predecessor OnePlus One is the inclusion of the fingerprint sensor. After Samsung, HTC and Apple, OnePlus is the latest to include the feature to its new smartphone that boosts the security of the device and makes it less prone to be accessed by strangers. The fingerprint sensor in the OnePlus 2 can store up to five unique fingerprints adding more security.

According to OnePlus, users can now wake and unlock the device with one of five stored fingerprints in less than half a second.

Additionally, the OnePlus 2 features an alert slider for quick access to custom notification settings. Unprecedented on an Android device, the alert slider can silence the device with a simple click.

The phone comes with a 13 megapixel rear camera with sensor pixel size of 1.3 microns, which the company says is 35 per cent larger than standard smartphone cameras. On the power front, the OnePlus 2 draws its juice from a 3300mAh battery as against the 3100mAh battery in the OnePlus One. It has a wide-angle 5 megapixel front-facing camera.

OnePlus has crafter the OnePlus 2 from a strong and lightweight aluminum alloy and removed its logo from the front of the device, offering a neater appearance. It will come with 4 StyleSwap covers - Bamboo, Black Apricot, Rosewood, and Kevlar.
