New Delhi: iOS users have a new reason to worry as a newly discovered bug can let hackers gain access to your iPhone or iPad using nothing but a WiFi network.

The hack puts the devices into restart loops, making them crash and reboot repeatedly. Security researchers at Skycure discovered the bug, dubbed 'no iOS Zone,' which can't be fixed and the only solution for the user is to just leave the network immediately.

A report on The Guardian notes that the attack uses a 'specially crafter SSL certificate,' which is used to ensure a secure connection, to trigger a bug in the iOS operating system that crashes out any app using SSL.

The researchers note that the attack surface is very wide and any delay in patching the vulnerability could lead to a serious business impact: an organized denial of service (DoS) attack can lead to big losses.

The WiFi bug could also be used to crash the operating system, the researchers warn. They say that in certain conditions, they were able to get the devices into a repeatable reboot cycle, leaving no scope to escape the network and making the device useless.

The researchers have also said that if the current bug is combined with an earlier vulnerability, dubbed 'WiFigate,' an attack could be crafted that would deny service to any iOS attack in a given area, including Wall Street, busiest airports, or large utility plants, resulting in catastrophic situations.

This week, another flaw was reported in Apple's Mac devices which surfaced from the company's botched fix for a long-existing backdoor named Rootpipe.

What's your reaction?
