On Thursday, leading action cam maker GoPro officially launched a developer program focused on boosting its products' appeal via new software and hardware.
Though made official at a press conference in San Francisco, the developer program has been running under the radar for over a year and the company has already signed up 100 partners.
GoPro wants its products to work seamlessly with a host of video and social media apps, and in concert with other types of devices. Recent research shows that although GoPro's products appear to be marketed directly at extreme sports fans and adrenaline junkies, the devices are most likely to be used by consumers looking to make holiday videos or record family events such as birthdays.
This is why alongside software and hardware GoPro is also looking to other companies to create new types of camera cases and mounts that can attach to objects other than crash helmets, surf boards and drones.
