Google Maps is set to receive a new update to its application according to some reports. The updates will come as Google aims to make the Maps more interactive with real-time notifications appearing through a user’s route. As per the reports, the real-time notification will appear on the Google Maps app or even more importantly, on the Android lock screen of the user’s device.
The real-time updates will start appearing through a user’s transit journey, just as they appear during ‘navigation’ while driving. The live notifications will start once a user clicks on the ‘Start’ button after looking for the transit directions through the app. The live updates will then appear as the user walks or rides on the local buses/ trains, notifying the user on-the-go.
If Google gets it right, and manages to keep it a through and through navigation update for users in transit, it might also notify the users when to get off their boarded bus/ train. The lock-screen notifications will also come in handy, considering that the step-by-step navigation might carry an interactive interface, enabling the user to scroll through their entire journey.
The update will make the Google Maps even more useful for users on foot, on a bike or a bus/ train. Though the exact date is currently unknown, Google is expected to rollout the feature soon, with rumours suggesting that it might already be in a testing stage.
