New Delhi: Pushing ahead its idea of offering high speed internet connectivity in the country, Google announced the launch of its free WiFi service at nine more railway stations in India.

After the first launch at Mumbai Central station, the search giant has expanded its public WiFi service in collaboration with Indian Railway's arm Railtel to stations including Pune, Bhubaneshwar, Bhopal, Ranchi, Raipur, Vijayawada, Kacheguda (Hyderabad), Ernakulum Jn (Kochi) and Vishakhapatnam.

According to a press release, the newly launched services will allow internet access to over 1.5 million Indians every day. The service will be soon formally inaugurated by Hon’ble Minister of Railways Shri Suresh Prabhakar Prabhu.

With Google's free WiFi, travelers passing through these stations will now be able to easily stream a high definition video while they’re waiting, research their destination, download a book or a new game for their journey.

Railtel owns a Pan-India optic fiber network exclusively on railway track. It has laid out over 45,000 kms of optic fibre networks across the country, which Google will utilise for its WiFi.

As per the plan, Railtel will be the ISP, while Google will provide the Wireless Area Networks (WAN) and will set-up the points of access at platforms.

Eventually, the service will be rolled out at 400 stations across the country covering all major rail premises.
