Karimnagar: Though people of Telangana consider YSR Congress (YSRC) chief YS Jagan Mohan Reddy as one who stands for unity of the state, the party has begun playing a role in the Telangana movement.

The YSRC has two leaders in Telangana, Konda Surekha in Warangal and K Satyavati in Khammam district, and both resigned on September 13 in protest against the delay in formation of Telangana state.

Their resignations are also viewed as indicative of their commitment to Jagan Mohan Reddy.

YSRC leaders believe that there may not be any hostility to the activities in the region since the party had already announced that it would not field a candidate in the Banswada by-election scheduled for October 13. Party leader Bajireddy Govardhan has said the YSRC will support TRS candidate Pocharam Srinviasa Reddy since he had quit his Assembly seat for Telangana.

In 2004 Bajireddy was elected from Banswada but he lost the election in 2009 to Srinivas Reddy.

YRSC activists staged dharnas and rasta rokos in Karimnagar decrying the arrest of Telangana Emoplyees Joint Action Committee president and TNGOA chairman K Swami Goud. They staged protests displaying their party flags and shouting Jai Telangana slogans.

YSRC leaders claimed that their party activists organised similar protests in several Telangana districts.

They also claimed that they were supporting the Sakala Janula Samme.

“We will corner Congress and the TDP leaders in the peoples’ court on their commitment to the Telangana cause. We will also play a key role in TJAC programmes,” one leader said.

Significantly, the TRS is not opposed to the YSRC which explains its neutral stand. As far as the Congress and TDP are concerned, the TRS says the two are its sworn enemies.
