Jamnagar: A complaint has been filed in the Jamnagar sessions court of Gujarat against Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) President Nitin Gadkari for drawing a comparison between Swami Vivekanda and underworld don Dawood Ibrahim. Harshad Bhatt, a Congress worker filed the court complaint on Tuesday, contending that Gadkari should be prosecuted for hurting the sentiments of Indians. The matter has been admitted and posted to November 9 for hearing.
Earlier, Gadkari expressed regret over his controversial statement on Swami Vivekananda. In a statement, he said, "I would like to reiterate that I never compared Swami Vivekananda with anyone. I had absolutely no intention to project Swami Vivekananda in bad light. If my words about Swami Vivekananda have hurt the public sentiments in any manner, I express my sincere regrets."
The BJP President had invited trouble on Monday after the statement where he was alleged to have compared Swami Vivekanand's IQ with that of underworld don Dawood Ibrahim. Gadkari had reportedly made the statement while explaining that gender discrimination is unfair and that people should be judged on the basis of their personal qualities.
"As per psychology, if we compare the IQ level of Swami Vivekananda and that of Dawood Ibrahim, it could have almost been the same. But Vivekananda used it in nation building, brotherhood and spiritualism while Dawood used that in excelling in the crime world," Gadkari had said.
