New Delhi: On completion of three years in office on Tuesday, the UPA said it had taken several unique measures to empower women in the country.
"National Mission for Empowerment of Women began a unique initiative in 2011 - a new model of 'convergence centres' for women called 'Poorna Shakti Kendras' dedicated to helping women access the benefits made available to them through various programmes in select districts of the country," the government said in its Report to the People, 2011-2012 to mark the occasion.
The government also highlighted that it had set up a high level Committee to undertake a comprehensive study on the status of women. It also mentioned the setting up of a Innovation Council for improving Child Sex Ratio in the country.
The government also listed the launching of scheme 'Swadhar Greh' to help marginalised girls and women. The UPA government further mentioned that it had operationalised 186 new projects and 42, 033 new anganwadi centres under its Integrated Child Development Scheme (ICDS).
The government also mentioned work done under 'Sabla' scheme and Integrated Child Protection Scheme (ICPS) as its measures to reach out and support Women and children in the country.
