Lucknow: Terming the Samajwadi Party's allegations that conversions in the state were taking place at the instance of Centre as baseless, the BJP today said law and order is a state subject and that the state government should be responsible to check them.
"The Samajwadi Party people, who had been busy in holding others responsible for their every failure, have now strategically started blaming the Centre for every incident," BJP spokesperson Vijay Bahadur Pathak alleged.
He further said, "The SP leaders must not forget that law and order is a state subject and that Uttar Pradesh is being run by Akhilesh Yadav". Reacting on senior minister Shivpal Singh Yadav's statement that conversions were taking place at the instance of the Centre, Pathak said the state has its own intelligence network and that it is their responsibility to check such conversions.
"If conversions are taking place at the behest of the Centre, then who is responsible to check them. Why don't they expose the instances of the centre," he said. The spokesperson said that it was unfortunate that "issue less SP could not digest the progress of the country".
He said that after the "crushing" defeat in Lok Sabha elections, opposition parties were making unsuccessful attempt to save their base.
