Cocking a snook at the Maharashtra government, Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray met party workers who had smeared black paint on Sudheendra Kulkarni for organising a book launch event for former Pakistan foreign minister Khurshid Mahmud Kasuri and felicitated them.
Thackeray met six Shiv Sena workers including vibhag pramukh Gajanan Patil in Matoshree just a day after they attacked and painted Kulkarni's face black.
The incident took place on Monday just hours after Kulkarni's meeting with Thackeray failed to yield any results. The Sena had threatened to disrupt the event and had written to the director of Worli's Nehru Centre, the launch venue, to cancel the show because of the Pakistan connection.
Despite the Shiv Sena's protest against the three-day visit of former Pakistan Foreign Minister Khurshid Mahmud Kasuri to launch his book, the programme took place as scheduled amidst a heavy security cover. Kasuri launched his memoir, Neither a Hawk nor a Dove: An Insider’s Account of Pakistan’s Foreign Policy in Mumbai.
Sources said that Uddhav had made the party's stand clear to Kulkarni and told the organisers that Kasuri is not an artist but a part of a political system that sponsors terror in India.
The incident took even as Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis assured the organisers of full security cover.
