Ruckus in Parliament over Aircel-Maxis deal
Both the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha had to be adjourned after the Opposition MPs shouted slogans.

New Delhi: There was a ruckus in both Houses of Parliament over the Aircel-Maxis deal on Tuesday. Opposition MPs shouted slogans forcing Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar and Rajya Sabha Chairman Hamid Ansari to adjourn both Houses.

The BJP demanded an explanation from the government and alleged that the CBI was deliberating delaying the investigation.

Speaking in the Rajya Sabha, Home Minister P Chidambaram denied any delay in the Aircel-Maxis deal.

Law Minister Salman Khurshid said, "It's not fair to raise the same questions again and again. These are issues on which we are ready to give explanations and be transparent, it's there for anyone to see."

Last week, the government had said that the allegations against Chidambaram's son in the Aircel-Maxis issue levelled by Janata Party President Subramanian Swamy were totally baseless.

Swamy had alleged that Chidambaram as Finance Minister had delayed the deal. Swamy had alleged that Karthi Chidambaram's firm Advantage made Rs 26 lakh out of a deal with telecom company Aircel, before its takeover by Maxis.

According to Swamy, the transaction occurred when Chidambaram was Union Finance Minister.

He further said that the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) could not conduct a fair investigation into the case while Chidambaram was the Union Home Minister.
