Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday visited Balakote sector along the Line of Control (LoC) where six people reportedly got killed in firing by Pakistani troops on August 15.
The Gandhi scion, who is the first national leader to visit the village along LoC, said the people in the area were worried and scared because of incessant firing from across the border and instances of ceasefire violations.
Terming those killed in Pakistani firing in the village as martyrs, the Congress vice president said that the government should look into their demands.
Talking to mediapersons, Rahul Gandhi said that the villagers had three basic demands that the government must accept.
He said that the villagers want adequate compensation for the losses they suffer in Pakistani firing. "The villagers want insurance for themselves and their livestock, property and crop," he said.
The third demand of the villagers, according to the Gandhi scion, was a bunker where they can hide themselves whenever there was firing from the Pakistani side.
