'Opposition Doesn't Have A Vision': Jaishankar Says Lok Sabha 2024 Election Is About Modi Ki Guarantee
External Affairs Minister Jaishankar underscores Lok Sabha 2024 as a choice between Modi's track record and opposition's lack of vision

Underlining that Lok Sabha 2024 is about “Modi ki Guarantee,” External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, on Friday, said the choices between the BJP-led government and the I.N.D.I.A. bloc are clear to the people of India, given their track record and the future vision of the country offered by the two.

While speaking with News18, Jaishankar said the “credibility of the guarantee” derives from the track record of the Narendra Modi government seen in the past ten years. The minister slammed the opposition, saying that there is nothing common that “unites them”, adding that they don’t have a “vision and only evoke fear.”

“Is this election about ‘Modi Ki guarantee’? Absolutely. In a way, you have Prime Minister Modi, two terms tenures with a solid track record. The credibility of the guarantee derives from the credibility of the track record,” the external affairs minister said during an interview with News18 Editor Zakka Jacob.

‘There’s a gaggle of people’

Taking a dig at the opposition alliance, Jaishankar said “There’s not a single guarantee” offered by the I.N.D.I.A bloc. “There’s a gaggle of people out there, each one of them, in fact, very often they pull in very different directions. About the only guarantee that they can suggest is, look, if you try, if you get, you know, somewhere, support us. We are not, we are different. I mean, there’s nothing beyond that which unites them.”

Jaishankar said the issue before the country is based on the aspirations and the goal of “Viksit Bharat” in the next 25 years.” “It’s only a Modi government which can get us moving in that direction. I think the choices are pretty clear. The choices are a 10-year track record and a 25-year journey and an optimistic, optimist, confident vision of India.”

“I think, what the other side is offering is, frankly, a very poor track record, many track records, in fact, of wearing quality, most of it not so good. And also, I would say, in a way, they don’t have a vision. They are evoking fears, they are evoking, you know if you do this, this will change, that will change. I think it’s a vote both for the achievements as well as for the aspirations,” he added.

India will ‘become 35-40T economy’

When asked a question about the government’s plans for young voters, Jaishankar said, “Someone who’s, let’s say, 21. They will need to think, what has changed in the last 10 years or the last 5 years of their life? And I think they would give a lot of credit to the Prime Minister personally and to his government. So, in a sense, you can say the past, then there is the present. There are a host of challenges and opportunities. Who is best geared to take them forward?”

“Clock starts ticking June 4th, you are off the block. Who’s ready to lead? Who has a pathway, who has a plan, you know, who has the experience, the credibility of delivery? And then there’s the future. Because we are talking of people today who would be below 30, yeah, in their lifetime, in their working lifetime. They will realize what it means to be ‘Viksit Bharat.’ You know, they will see this country go to become a 30-35-40 trillion economy.”
