Karnataka civic polls: JD(S) emerging as top gainer
The party has won 1200 of the 4920 wards which went to poll.

New Delhi: Latest trends emerging during the counting of the votes in civic polls in Karnataka show that there seems to be a surprising turn around in JD(S)'s fortunes.

The party is now emerging as the top gainer. It has won 1200 of the 4920 wards which went to poll.

"The voters have taught a lesson to BJP's arrogance," said Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy in reference to JD(S)'s impressive performance.

The party has managed to retain its traditional strongholds in south Karnataka and even sweeped the Hassan district.

The Congress is in second place winning 900 wards. The BJP which was leading till now, has now been relegated to the third place. It has won only 700 wards so far.

The results of the local elections may have a bearing on the power tussle between the ruling JD(S) and the BJP in the state.

As per their power sharing pact, the JD(S) has to hand over the Chief Minister's post to the BJP on October 3.

But the JD(S) is reluctant to do that now, saying a cabinet minister from the BJP had filed a murder complaint against Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy.

The minister concerned, B Sriramulu, handed over his resignation letter to Deputy CM B S Yediyurappa on Saturday.
