Days after Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) recalled several products, including Nestle Maggi noodles, from the market, Food Processing Minister Harsimrat Kaur Badal has hit out at the food safety regulator.
According to the minister, the food safety regulator has created an environment of fear in the industry. She added that FSSAI needs to "streamline its regulations".
"A lot needs to be done as the FSSAI has created environment of fear in the industry. It needs to streamline its regulations," said Badal, adding that its steps were stopping innovation in the processing sector.
The remark from the minister comes almost a fortnight after reports said that the FSSAI order banning production and distribution of Maggi variants appeared to be having a major impact on the investor sentiment in the country.
Government sources had said that several top leaders were not in favour of imposing ban on food products. They were, however, asked not to speak out of turn on the Maggi issue.
