Forbesganj: Lalu holds Nitish, Modi responsible
Lalu demanded that the state government suspend officials responsible for the incident.

Forbesganj: RJD chief Lalu Prasad on Monday held Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and his deputy SK Modi responsible for the police firing at Bhajanpura in Bihar's Araria district in June.

Prasad, who led a march organised by his party from Patna to Forbesganj, said the firing "could have been averted" had the chief minister and his deputy taken preventive steps.

He said his party would launch a state-wide campaign to highlight the "misdeeds" of the state government which has been "a total failure" on all fronts.

Describing the judicial probe ordered by Kumar into the firing as an "eyewash", he demanded that the state government suspend officials responsible for the incident.

Prasad said a criminal case should be lodged against the owner of the proposed factory which was at the root of the protests that led to the firing.

The RJD chief gave a total of Rs five lakh in cash on behalf of his party to the families of those killed in the firing and injured in police action.

Four people were killed and several others injured in the June 3 firing and clash between security men and locals opposing the construction of a starch factory and an approach road at Forbesganj in the district.
