Allahabad: The Centre has asked the UP government to explain the security breach of Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi.

The security breach happened on Monday evening, when Rahul was on his way to Anand Bhavan, the ancestral house of the Nehru-Gandhis, after an interaction at engineering institute MNNIT.

A group of SP youth wing activists, who were waving black flags and shouting slogans against him and the Congress, jumped in front of his vehicle.

SPG guards accompanying Rahul had to push back some of the protesters.

Mayawati government has banned students union elections in UP. Rahul had promised earlier that he would lift the ban on student body elections in universities.

Activists of SP's youth wing were protesting against Congress-led UPA's failure to restore students' union in Allahabad University.

Amar Singh, the expelled leader of the Samajwadi Party, on Thursday accused his former party of carrying out a "murderous attack" on Rahul Gandhi during the young Congress leader's recent visit to Uttar Pradesh.
