New Delhi: Former DMK minister Vellakovil Swaminathan was arrested in Tamil Nadu on Monday on charges of land-grabbing. Swaminathan who was the Highways Minister in the Karunanidhi-led DMK government in Tamil Nadu has been chagred with land grabbing, criminal intimidation and holding kangaroo courts.
Many senior leaders and former ministers of the DMK have been arrested and jailed on land grab charges since the AIADMK government assumed office in May 2011.
Former ministers K Ponmudi, KN Nehru, Veerapandi Arumugham and others are amongst those arrested. The government has set up special cells to investigate land grab complaints.
State police have also registered a land grab case against former deputy chief minister MK Stalin and his son Udayanidhi Stalin.
