Elaborate Security Measures for Mamata's Swearing-in Ceremony

Kolkata: Stage is all set for the grand swearing-in ceremony of the second term of Mamata Banerjee and her council of ministers which will take place on Friday at the Red Road in central Kolkata.

The gala event to showcase Trinamool Congress's thumping victory in the state polls is likely to be attended by over 30,000 people that is why Mamata wanted the venue shifted from the Raj Bhavan lawns to Red Road.

This is for the first time that a chief minister will take oath on Red Road, an arterial link road in the city. Seats for around 30,000 people have been arranged under a cover of about 10,000 square feet area on the venue.

"Around 40 senior officers of the rank of Deputy Commissioner are present at the venue. Plain clothes policemen were also present at the site," the IPS officer said.

The Disaster Management unit of Kolkata Police, three units of QRT, four HRFS were also asked to keep round the clock vigil.

According to a top officer of the Kolkata Police, security arrangement for the day would be the same as is made for the Republic Day parade.

Sniffer dogs were deployed and CCTVs have been installed to keep a constant check on the movement at the venue while entry points towards the dais would also be sealed, the officer said.

The road has remained closed to traffic for past few days to enable the makeshift constructions at the venue.

Governor Kesari Nath Tripathi and Mamata Banerjee would be seated on the main stage with two more stages on either side of it.

"On these two stages there will be 100 seats each. One will accommodate central ministers and invitee chief ministers from other states along with other VVIPs, the other two will have the Chief Minister's Cabinet colleagues who will also be taking oath tomorrow," senior police sources said.

The opposition parties have boycotted the event protesting the alleged post poll violence on their leaders and supporters across the state.

The state BJP will observe a black day in the districts and had even threatened to disrupt the function.
