Kolkata: The Communist Party of India (Marxist) on Wednesday expelled former Left Front Minister and West Bengal state committee member Abdur Rezzak Mollah from party.

Mollah's indulgence in anti-party activities and tarnishing the image of the party have been stated as cause behind his expulsion. The decision was taken at the party's state secretariat meeting held on Wednesday.

Mollah, who had been publicly censored by his party at least twice in the past for anti-party comments, recently lashed out against the CPI-M politburo members and called them 'dalals' or agents "who had no links with the soil, people and grassroots".

Mollah recently launched a forum called Samajik Nyay Bichar Manch or Social Justice Platform to support the cause of Muslims, Dalits and SC/STs, a move which the CPI-M considered a clear sign of rebellion.

Mollah had also announced that the organization would field candidates in the 2016 Assembly polls. He was also publicly critical of the Left's decision to field Ritabrata Banerjee as candidate for Rajya Sabha from West Bengal. Mollah was the land reforms minister in the Left Front government and was amongst the few ministers to retain his seat after the 2011 Assembly elections. ####
