Congress clears Nilekani from Bangalore South
Nandan Nilekani will be taking on BJP national general secretary and former union minister Ananth Kumar.

New Delhi: According to high level sources, Congress President Sonia Gandhi has officially cleared the name of Infosys co-founder and Aadhaar chairman Nandan Nilekani's name for Bangalore South Lok Sabha seat in Karnataka.

Nandan Nilekani will be taking on BJP national general secretary and former union minister Ananth Kumar, who has won 5 straight Lok Sabha polls from the prestigious Bangalore South.

Nilekani has already started the poll preparations to try his luck in the electoral politics. Bangalore South has been with the BJP since 1991. It is one of the four Lok Sabha seats the BJP has won in Karnaraka (in the entire South) for the first time.

The AICC has so far cleared 12 names from Karnataka. Karnataka has 28 Lok Sabha seats and the Congress is yet to clear 16 remaining names.

The high command has decided to field all 9 sitting MPs from the state. It has also decided to field former chief justice of Orissa high court and former MP NY Hanumanthappa from Bellary and Lakshmi Hebbalkar from Belgaum in the Lok Sabha polls.

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, KPCC president Dr G Parameshwar and the Congress general secretary in charge of Karnataka Digvijaya Singh met Sonia Gandhi on Monday.

The BJP has already cleared 21 names from Karnataka. The JDS has also cleared 10 names.
