Rajkot: Congress on Monday promised to abolish contract recruitment system in government jobs if it came to power in Gujarat after the December Assembly polls. The Opposition party accused the Narendra Modi government of "exploiting" its employees recruited on contractual basis and assured to make such staffers permanent if it formed the next government.
"Congress will abolish contract system in state government offices and nearly 40,000 employees recruited on contract system in the last seven years would be made permanent," senior party leader Narhari Amin said. He was announcing the party's 11th point of its "Gujarat People Development Vision-2012".
"Contract employees recruited in various Government offices are being exploited and not given full salary. Congress will abolish the contract system if it is voted to power in Gujarat," the former Deputy Chief Minister said. The BJP, ruling the State since 1995, has not made a single welfare scheme for such employees, Amin alleged.
The Congress leader slammed the Modi government for not using Rs 1,200 crore meant for unorganised workers. "The State Government did not spend a single rupee on unorganised workers. Instead, it is spending money for the benefit of a few builders and industrialists," he said.
