New Delhi: After Australia denied visa to a student, Congress MP Shashi Tharoor raised the matter with External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj.
"I am writing to Sushma Swaraj to urge her to take up Australia's denial of a visa to an Indian aerospace student on proliferation grounds. Unacceptable that a "friendly country" implicitly treats India like a rogue nation. Sushma Swaraj should protest in the strongest terms," Tharoor tweeted.

Australia has denied a student visa to an IIT-Kanpur graduate over suspicions that he might be involved in proliferation of weapons of mass destruction.
Aerospace engineer Ananth SM had applied for the Australian visa in August 2015 for a PhD at the University of Melbourne. He approached Tharoor for help when he did not get a visa in 10 months.
According to Tharoor, the Australian government said that the student's motive is suspicious.
