New Delhi: The All India Medical Sciences (AIIMS) on Wednesday told the Delhi High Court that Rajya Sabha MP Amar Singh, arrested for his alleged role in 2008 cash-for-vote scam and admitted there for treatment of his renal infection, needs constant medical monitoring.
"He needs to be constantly monitored for renal function, infections and if he is travelling he should be under the supervision of nephrologist, a dialysis technician, a nurse and use ambulance/air ambulance for emergency," said a report by Additional Professor Doctor Sanjay Gupta of the AIIMS' Department of Nephrology.
The report was submitted to Justice Ajit Bharihoke who had earlier sought to be apprised of Amar Singh's health condition to decide his bail plea.
"Following discharge, he needs to take medicines and follow a routine as directed to prevent any transplant kidney function deterioration," said the report, adding Singh has been suffering from other ailments including partial artery disease and respiratory problems besides Urinary Tract Infection (UTI)", AIIMS medical report said.
Recommending that Singh needs to be kept in a highly sanitised and hygienic environment, the medical report said "he should avoid crowded places and unsensitised environment to prevent getting infected. Unhygienic environment may lead to repeated infections leading to sepsis. The people around him should not have any communicable disease."
"The antibiotics need to be continued till the urine infection subsides and his renal parameters touch its baseline," the report said adding Singh should take frequent small proper meals and drink water which is free from microbes.
Referring to other test reports, the nephrologist said, "Singh was investigated for Atheroscerotic Vascular disease by Doppler US that suggested partially Occluded Peripheral artery disease."
"For the last four days, he is also having upper respiratory infection, diarrhoea and UTI," said the report adding the parliamentarian was "advised on double drug immuno suppression."
"Singh's blood pressure too has increased and he did not have proper sleep due to situational anxiety," the report said, adding, however, that his thyroid functions test is within normal limits.
"The frequency of loose motion recently increased to 20-25 in a day and he was seen by a physician who opined that in view of his immunosupressed state, reactivation of TB cannot be excluded and advised him to undergo the relevant test," the report added.
