Xi Supports Palestine, Slams Attacks on Civilians; India Points Out His ‘Double Standards’: Top Sources
Top government sources told News18, on one hand, Xi has ‘objections’ with Muslims living in China, and on the other hand, he is mediating with the Arab and Muslim countries on the Palestine issue for business and strategic purposes

China has espoused the Palestinian cause and the establishment of its independent state. Chinese president Xi Jinping said the attacks on the civilians must stop and hostages must be released during the BRICS virtual summit on the Palestinian-Israeli situation on Tuesday.

“I have emphasised on many occasions that the only viable way to break the cycle of Palestinian-Israeli conflict lies in a two-state solution, in the restoration of the legitimate national rights of Palestine, and in the establishment of an independent state of Palestine,” Xi said.

The president said China has also sent US$2 million in aid to Gaza via Egypt.

He called on the international community to take practical action to prevent the conflict from spilling over and endangering stability in the region as a whole.

China’s foreign minister hosted top delegation from Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Egypt, Indonesia, the Palestinian Authority and the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation was in Beijing on Monday to discuss ways to mediate peace, building efforts by Beijing’s Middle East.

Top Indian government sources told News18 that Xi’s talks on Palestine reflect “double standards”. On one hand he has “objections” with Muslims living in China, on the other hand, he is mediating with the Arab and Muslim countries on Palestine for business and strategic purposes.

“Chinese policy is not clear and the world should be aware of their double standards. He is aligning with the Arab and Muslim states and telling them what they want to hear. War with Hamas is about Israel’s survival and not territorial disputes,” sources said.

Xi made three proposals to end the Palestinian-Israeli conflict which include all parties in the conflicts should immediately cease fire and hostilities, stop all violence and attacks targeting civilians, and release civilian detainees to avoid more loss of lives and suffering.

He said that the collective punishment of people in Gaza in the form of forced transfer or water, electricity and fuel deprivation must stop.
