If you want to watch the big-ticket World Cup clash between India and Pakistan in Ahmedabad on October 14, but still haven’t booked flight tickets or they are too expensive, then worry not as Indian Railways is here to save the day. A special Vande Bharat train will have your travel covered.
According to top sources, the railways will be running special Vande Bharat trains to Ahmedabad for the cricket match. Fans from across India have planned their travel to the Gujarat capital, for which hotel rooms and flights have been booked well in advance. But, closer to matchday, flights are only becoming more expensive.
Sources told News18 that special trains from neighbouring states of Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Maharashtra will facilitate those travelling for the match at Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi stadium. The itinerary of the train makes it even more interesting.
“The scheduling has been done in such a way that the train will reach Ahmedabad a couple of hours before the match begins, so that passengers can simply return to their home destinations after the contest is over,” a top official told News18.
This has been done to counter exorbitant airfare, lack of accommodation, high hotel tariffs among others. The official said the idea behind running these trains is that people can return home after the match is complete.
“Trains plying from these special locations will halt at Sabarmati and Ahmedabad stations, both of which are in close proximity to the Narendra Modi stadium,” the source said.
The railways is also planning to make the travel experience worth it – right from playing patriotic songs to playing out historical cricket moments of previous clashes between archrivals India and Pakistan, and even some special merchandise.
Tickets for the India-Pakistan match sold out instantly after they were available online. Several VIPs and VVIPs are also expected to be at the stadium for this match.
