David Warner Posts Heartfelt Note for Flood-affected Chennai, Urges People to Help Those in Need
The Aussie opener took to Instagram to share his thoughts on the dire situation in Chennai and encouraged his followers to help out the affected in any way possible.

After creating havoc for over 40 hours in parts of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry, cyclonic storm Michaung is poised for landfall by Andhra Pradesh’s Bapatla coast in forenoon on Tuesday. The rain subsided in Chennai, bringing relief to residents from severe waterlogging and power outages.

As the city continues to brace themselves for landfall and recover from the debilitating flooding,  many personalities from all over have stepped up to showcase their support for the residents of Chennai.

And it seems like news of the waterlogged streets of Chennai traveled across international waters, as it had also garnered the attention of Australia batter David Warner.

The Aussie opener took to Instagram to share his thoughts on the dire situation in Chennai and encouraged his followers to help out the affected in any way possible.

“I’m deeply concerned about the ongoing floods affecting many areas in Chennai. My thoughts are with all those who are impacted by this natural disaster. It’s important for everyone to stay safe, seek higher ground if necessary. If you’re in a position to help, please consider supporting relief efforts or offering assistance to those in need. Let’s come together to support where we can”, wrote Warner on his Instagram post.

Warner is set to embark on what seems to be a farewell Test series Australia are set to take on Pakistan starting from December 14.

Earlier this year, Warner expressed his wish to finish his Test career at the third and final Test against Pakistan at his home ground in Sydney. Although Warner has been in exceptional form in white-ball cricket, he has only averaged 31.79 since the start of 2020 and made only 285 runs at an average of 28.50 in five Ashes Tests this year.

Despite questions about his age, chief selector George Bailey came out in support of the left-handed opener, saying he is still the best option to open alongside Usman Khawaja.

“Ultimately, we still think he’s in our best 11 players to win the first Test. I think Test cricket, in terms of the way that the World Test Championship points are set up, each Test is critical. There are points on the line for every game.”

“So our focus is very much on picking the 11 that we think can do the job and obviously there’s roles within that for each individual and how that structures up the team as a whole and we think David is the right person for that for this Test,” said Bailey to reporters.
