In a move to give a new name identity to the cars, the German car manufacturer Audi is gearing up to introduce a new name strategy, under which the company will give the fuel-powered vehicles an odd-number badge. While the EVs will be recognized with an even number badge.
It has been reported that steps will be taken to make it simpler for customers to differentiate between fuel-powered vehicles and EVs. However, further details regarding the same are yet to be shared by the company.
What is Audi’s New Name Strategy?
Let’s make you understand in a simpler manner. For example, if Audi introduces an EV under the name A6 E-tron in 2024, the existing ICE model with the same name will lose its original name, and will likely be called A7. The same strategy will be applied to the other models as well.
Here’s What Company’s Technical Chief Says About Step
Reacting about the same, Audi’s technical chief, Oliver Hoffmann said the sole purpose of the initiative is to offer the customers a simpler and straightforward structure to identify different powertrains. He said by adopting the strategy, customers will be able to differentiate the names between two fuel-powered models and EVs powertrains easily.
He also informed that the feature-loaded four-wheeler like the A6, which is considered Audi’s core segment, will represent the company’s future plans in the electric segment. He also called the name-changing plan a logical step.
Future of E-Tron
When Hoffmann was being asked if the company planning to drop the e-Tron suffix as well. To which, he replied saying “In the future, A6 will be clear as the battery-electric vehicle. It will be the A6 e-tron, like the Q6 e-tron, but if anyone says ‘this is the Q6’, you know it is the battery-electric vehicle. You don’t have to use the e-tron badge or ICE badge.”
