Pankaj Tripathi received rave reviews and widespread fame after his gangster portrayal in Anurag Kashyap’s hit film Gangs Of Wasseypur. The film turned out to be a massive hit at the box office. The actor revealed that, post the film’s success many real-life gangsters approached him as they started ‘thinking of him as ‘their idol’.
In an interview with India TV, Pankaj was asked if the rumours about gangsters appraoching him, after he played Sultan in Gangs of Wasseypur was true, the actors answered in the affirmative. “Many gangsters approached me. At that time, many gangsters in North and South India started thinking of me as their idol. They thought Sultan does what he speaks in the film, and he also has a good character in the film. So, they started liking Sultan a lot. Many writers after that, who would come to narrate stories to me, would be scared that I would take out a knife from my pocket,” Pankaj shared.
Gangs Of Wasseypur was released back in 2012. The film emerged as a pivotal milestone for Pankaj Tripathi and his fellow cast members, carving their names in Bollywood’s history books. The Anurag Kashyap directorial also starred Manoj Bajpayee, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Richa Chadha, Huma Qureshi and Tigmanshu Dhulia in pivotal roles.
Meanwhile on the work front, Pankaj Tripathi was last seen in Kadak Singh. He shared screen space with Sanjana Sanghi for the same. The film revolves around AK Shrivastava, a financial crimes officer in Kolkata, who suffers from localised amnesia post-accident while investigating a major chit fund scam. The film is currently streaming on Zee5.
Pankaj Tripathi will next be seen in Main Atal Hoon. The film will be releasing on January 19.
