Daily commuters in Mumbai will have to face some inconveniences as more than 2,500 suburban services, also called local rails, will remain cancelled till November 6 due to ongoing construction activities.
According to PTI, the suburban railway services will remain affected due to a block undertaken in connection with the construction of the 6th line between Khar and Goregaon stations.
“Due to non-interlocking work in connection with the construction of the 6th line between Khar and Goregaon stations, these 2,525 suburban services will remain cancelled, ” a release by Western Railways stated.
Sumit Thakur, WR’s chief public relations officer, said that the block was planned keeping in mind that it causes minimum disruption to rail traffic and the least inconvenience to passengers.
Which Rail Routes Will Remain Affected Till Nov 6
At least 230 to 316 Up (towards Churchgate) and Down (towards Virar/Dahanu) suburban trains will remain cancelled every day, while 93 local trains will be cancelled on November 4 and 110 on November 5, the Western Railway said in its release.
Western Railway has undertaken the work of fast-tracking the sixth line project between Khar and Goregaon stations, an 8.8 kilometre stretch, from October 7 and the work is progressing at a rapid pace, the release said.
Earlier in October, a major 38-hour rail traffic block was enforced on both the Up and Down lines between Panvel and Kharghar suburban stations resulting in the cancellation of local trains between the route for the given time frame.
The block was in place from September 30 to October 3. More than 170 services were cancelled while 700 trains were short-terminated at Belapur due to the block.
