Veteran actress Saira Banu recalled the film's shooting days in a heartwarming post as her film Padosan clocked 55 years.

Ever since Saira Banu made her debut on Instagram, has been delighting her followers with pictures, anecdotes, and cherished memories from her illustrious career. In her latest entry, she celebrated 55 years of her film Padosan and disclosed intriguing details about its casting process. Saira Banu called Padosan one of her favourite films and shared insights into how Mehmood sought Dilip Kumar’s approval to cast her in the film. She even revealed Dilip Kumar’s humorous reaction to the proposition.

Recalling the moment, she recounted, “It was then that Mehmood Bhai as he had earlier approached me for this film came running to Sahib, hugged him close, and kept saying in a rhetorical tone “Yousuf Bhai you have to let Saira do this film for me. I will not let go of you until you say yes please please”, Sahab was tickled to the bone and kept repeating laughingly “Mehmood it is entirely up to Saira, You have to convince her. You have my absolute permission.”

In her lengthy post, Saira Banu fondly reminisced about the joyful experiences during the making of Padosan. She described it as one of the best times of her life. She recalled how Mehmood shared scenes from the Tamil version of the film, causing her to burst into laughter. The filming began in Madras.

Saira Banu went on to praise the perfectly chosen cast, expressing initial surprise at seeing Sunil Dutt in the role of a simpleton “Gaonwalla.” She humorously shared Sunil Dutt’s reaction, quoting him as saying, “Sairaji Yeh Kyaa Hain, Yeh Hum Kyaa Kar Rahein Hain? Hamein Toh ‘Anthony and Cleopatra’ May Kaam Karna Chahiye, Something Romantic and Glamorous.” Despite not having worked with Sunil Dutt before, she found him to be lively and funny. On the other hand, Saira described Kishore Kumar as a “subdued gentlemanly star”, who would respectfully stand up when any lady entered.

Saira Banu’s captivating storytelling quickly garnered an enthusiastic response from fans. “I always see this movie it is mood-changing and not boring whenever I see it thank you all cast of Padosan for making this beautiful movie,” a user wrote. Another one commented, “Amazing movie.”
