In the recent past, ENHYPEN’s Sunghoon has garnered notable attention from netizens due to a resurfaced online interaction with a fan. The incident originally took place last December on Weverse, a widely used fan communication platform. Sunghoon, like many idols, often shares his music preferences with ENGENEs, the devoted ENHYPEN fanbase, through social media. In December 2023, he posted a photo of himself listening to Ne-Yo’s Mad, expressing his fondness for the lyrics.
The 2008 R&B track holds a significant place in Ne-Yo’s renowned discography, with its video and lyrics portraying a narrative where a couple engages in a dispute, concluding with the singer’s desire to reconcile before bedtime.
As soon as Sunghoon, 21, shared the song, ENGENEs appreciated his choice of such an iconic song, commending his taste. However, one fan took a different stance, posting a lengthy message on Weverse questioning Sunghoon’s understanding of the song’s meaning. The fan went on to inquire about the idol’s relationship status, expressing concerns that the lyrics might cause worry among fans.
“Do you know what the lyrics mean? Why do you think the lyrics are good for no reason? When you shared a song before, you never emphasised on the lyrics. Are you in a relationship? Please come out and explain,” wrote the fan.
Sunghoon’s response to this post was succinct— he explained his appreciation for the lyrics because of their somber tone. Fans observed that he initiated his response with a stray question mark, interpreted by many as a subtle expression of his disbelief at the unwarranted scrutiny over a simple song recommendation.
ENGENEs strongly criticised the original poster of the comment for their perceived inappropriate behaviour towards the idol. Despite the initial backlash, the incident resurfaced on Twitter weeks later, generating amusement among netizens who appreciated Sunghoon’s sassy reply.
“No Cause What Is Wrong With Engenes!!!,” wrote a fan.
