While a larger section of film audiences consider Rocking Star Yash’s rise to fame to be attributed largely to the KGF saga, Kannada audiences who have been following his career trajectory are well aware that his journey to stardom began much earlier. In 2013, Yash made a significant mark with two back-to-back hits: Googly and Raja Huli. These films catapulted him into the spotlight long before the Prashant Neel-directed film captured national attention and established him as a prominent figure in the industry.
While Yash has not been seen on the big screen since 2022’s KGF Chapter 2, he will soon be seen in Toxic and Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana. But before that, he is returning to the big screen with the aforementioned 2013 movie Raja Huli which is slated for re-release on July 26.
Directed by Guru Deshpande, Raja Huli proved to be a significant success despite being a Kannada remake of the Tamil film Sundarapandian. The film reportedly grossed Rs 50 crore at the box office, a remarkable achievement at the time. Following acclaimed films like Drama and Googly, the success of Raja Huli solidified Yash’s position as a major star in the Kannada film industry.
For Meghana Raj, Raja Huli marked her return to Kannada cinema after a successful stint in Malayalam cinema spanning nearly three years. Guru Deshpande, reflecting on the film’s milestone, expressed profound sentiment, stating, “Rajahuli will always be a very special film in my career. I’ll cherish the journey of this film all my life.” According to fans, Raja Huli surpassed the Tamil original, thanks to Yash’s portrayal with a strong attitude, Meghana Raj’s compelling performance, Chikkanna’s clean comedy, and Hamsalekha’s excellent musical score, among other highlights.
Regarded as one of the finest remakes not just in Yash’s career but also in Kannada cinema, Raja Huli continues to be celebrated for its entertainment value and successful adaptation of its Tamil predecessor. It remains to be seen if the re-release box office collections are as good as the ones from the original release.
