It was Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah actor Gurcharan Singh’s disappearance in March this year that brought him back to the limelight and left his fans worried. Even though he returned home after 26 days, details about his whereabouts were not revealed for months. Now that the 51-year-old actor has finally revealed what exactly happened in March this year; here’s everything about his disappearance you need to know:

Who Is Gurucharan Singh? 

Gurcharan Singh became a household name after he played the role of Roshan Singh Sodhi — a fun-loving man who is always in party mode and never shies away from expressing love for his wife – in Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah. He was one of the popular characters on the show, and also a founding cast member. However, Gurcharan left the show in 2013 only to return the next year due to public demand. In 2020, he finally left the show and was replaced by actor Balwinder Singh Suri.

When Did Gurucharan Singh Go Missing? 

Gurucharan Singh went missing on April 22, 2024. He was supposed to take a flight from Delhi to Mumbai but never reached the airport in the national capital. Singh’s father filed a missing complaint four days later which stated, “My son Gurucharan Singh, Age: 50 years, had left at 8:30 am on 22nd April to go to Mumbai. He went to the airport to catch a flight. He didn’t reach Mumbai, neither has he returned home and his phone is not reachable. He is mentally stable and we had been searching for him but now he has been missing.”

Gurucharan ‘Planned’ His Disappearance?

After Singh’s father filed a missing complaint, Delhi Police stepped into action. His phone was tracked only to discover that it was last used near the Delhi Airport. Later, police sources also told News18 Showsha exclusively that the actor may have “planned” his own disappearance. “He left his phone in the Palam area. We are trying to find but it only makes it more difficult for us to trace Gurucharan Singh, because this means that the phone is not with the actor. In the CCTV footage, we recovered that he was seen moving from one e-rickshaw to another. Looks like, he had planned everything and has moved out of Delhi,” police sources told us.

Mystery About Gurucharan Singh’s Financial Condition

While Gurucharan’s family, friends and fans were concerned, the mystery around his disappearance deepened when several unverified reports claimed that the actor used to operate 10 bank accounts and rely upon credit cards. It was said that Singh used to frequently utilise credit cards and was not in a good financial condition. It was also reported that Gurucharan Singh withdrew Rs 14,000 from an ATM before he disappeared on April 22.

Delhi Police Team Questions TMKOC Actor 

To find Gurucharan Singh, a team of Delhi police officials visited TMKOC sets in Mumbai’s Film City. They questioned Singh’s former co-stars to try to find out his whereabouts. “This week Delhi police visited our sets and spoke with the actors who were in touch with Gurucharan Singh. Everyone has co-operated well with the police,” a source close to the show’s production had said.

Gurucharan Singh Returns Home After 26 Days

Everyone took a sign of relief when Gurucharan Singh finally returned home on May 18, 2024. Upon his return, Singh was interrogated by Delhi Police officials following which it was discovered that he had left home to be on a religious journey. Police officials had said that Gurucharan visited Gurudwaras in Amritsar and Ludhiana ever since he was reported “missing” but he later realised that he should return home.

Gurucharan Singh Finally Opens Up On His Disappearance 

On Wednesday, Singh finally opened up about his disappearance for the first time. He revealed that he went on a spiritual journey in April this year and had no plans of coming back. The actor further clarified that his disappearance wasn’t a publicity stunt and shared that he returned home only because ‘god gave me a sign’.

“I have always been spiritual because of my parents and at this point in life when I was feeling low, I turned towards God. I went on a spiritual journey and had no plans of coming back. But God gave me a sign and that made me return home,” he told the Bombay Times.
